Today's scary Bible verse!

"From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some youths came out of the town and jeered at him. "Go on up, you baldhead!" they said. "Go on up, you baldhead!" 24 He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the LORD. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the youths."  2Kings 2:23-24

  1. Scary? Sure it is. IN CONTEXT (don't forget to read passages in context), the passage is telling of how people are to respect, with reverence, the chosen servants of God. These youth were showing the utmost disrespect and disgust to an anointed prophet of the Lord. Though in our cultural settings, calling someone a "baldhead" would mean very little offense, back then and in that culture, it meant a great deal more. As Jesus Himself has stated, if one rejects and hurls insults at God's chosen, it is the same as rejecting and insulting God Himself. That is why those youth were punished by death.
